Olive Goes to Beijing
By Nick

Olive, the polar bear, was tired of looking at nothing but boring snow and ice. There was snow as far as he could possibly see. “I’m tired of this boring snow,” Olive told his mother. “I’m going to where I can see something different.” “But you are a polar bear,” said his mother. It didn’t matter to Olive. He furiously packed up his important things and didn’t foolishly forget his lucky acorn. Then he walked away.

When he was waving goodbye to his sad mom, he fell off of a cliff. He safely landed on a small iceberg and floated away. Olive slept for several days and nights on the iceberg. Finally, he hit land after a week. He got off of the iceberg and saw a huge city, so he started to walk there.

When he made it there, he started walking down the crowded streets, and he saw strange creatures. They all said, “Wow, that polar bear is really ugly.” But Olive thought maybe they were just surprised he was in the city. All of the sudden he ran into a wall. He quickly looked up and it was giant building. Olive ran inside and saw water everywhere. Then out of nowhere a strange creature came up to Olive. Olive panicked, and he wanted to run, but he was too scared. Then, the stranger said, “Hi, what’s your name? My name is Michael Phelps.” Olive remembered what his mother told him. He was never to talk to strange creatures. Olive wanted to talk to Michael, but he was afraid of what might happen if he said anything. Olive sat for a while thinking and then just said it. He said, “My name is Olive.” Michael was stunned. Michael couldn’t believe it. He started talking some more to Olive.

Later, they got hungry and went out for some great sushi. Olive said, “Where are we?” Michael said that they were in Beijing. Olive was sad after a few days in Beijing because he missed his mom. Olive told Michael he wanted him to teach him how to swim. The next day they started swimming lessons. Olive left the day after that on his long journey home. He swam for hours and took breaks on floating driftwood.

Later, the blue sky began to grow dark gray and Olive painfully began to cramp. All of the sudden a large shark fin quickly popped out of the water. The waves rose up and heavily crashed on the driftwood he was floating on. The shark fin got closer, the waves got rougher, and the sky grew grayer. He started to helplessly sink. Olive saw his life flash by. Then, he saw a bright light and saw his mother reaching out to him. Next, a flash of pitch black came in front of his face. He woke up, and he was soaked in sea water. His mother told him that he had almost drowned, but Michael heroically saved him. Michael was sitting next to Olive. They were all snug in Olive’s cozy cave. Olive thought that this was exactly where he should be.
